Seb & Charlie meets Katie Bear!

We were delighted to be invited to the book launch of 'Katie Bear goes to hospital' for The Children's Heart Surgery Fund.

It is a story and activities book which offers a step-by-step guide for children with congenital heart disease showing what happens before, during and after open heart surgery.

The book follows the main character; Katie Bear as she talks through her journey, sharing top tips and activity ideas to encourage children to ask questions and understand the process.

I illustrated the 36 page book which was written by Senior Clinical Psychologist Dr Rachel Avison (2nd left) and Children’s Cardiac Nurse Specialist Mike Fresson (end, left). The Emmerdale actor Dominic Brunt also took part in the book launch at Leeds General Infirmary.

It was an absolute pleasure to illustrate for the project and the team at The Children's Heart Surgery Fund were so informative and supportive throughout the whole process.

Charlie not only displayed her tremendous skill as an illustrator during this project, bit also her patience and warm-heartedness in helping out beyond the call of duty.

Let's go!

2017 was a busy year with lots of ups...Seb's second birthday, followed by the businesses second birthday and our lovely wedding in September.

With regards to the business, I'm always reluctant to speak about it as i'm scared i'll tempt fate and everything will come crashing down, so I will just say...so far, so good! I design and illustrate, people pay me = GREAT. Finding my position in the market and focusing on my goals are key in 2018. I spent a lot of my time last year taking on as much work as i could because i didn't want to turn anything away.

MY DAD'S ADVICE IS 'DON'T BE A BUSY FOOL'

I was frantic with my work, taking on absolutely everything and in a complete whirlwind of work, work, work whilst also trying to be a mum, wife and everything in between I was exhausted. But in the work, work, work whirlwind I barely gave myself time to go to toilet, never mind sit back and actually look at what I was doing.

Coming into 2018, my work focus is to respect my time and quote projects accordingly. It's hard when you're designing and illustrating as tweaks come in here and there and it's so easy to say yes to everything but I respect myself and what i do as a living and the clients i want to work with should too. It's not my hobby, it's my job.

My brand ethos is WE ARE CREATIVE. WE ARE CONFIDENT. WE ARE KIND.

I will always provide the best CREATIVE service i possibly can.

I am CONFIDENT in my design and illustration services and offer full clarity with my rates.

I AM KIND to clients and offer leniency as much as i possibly can.

NEW LOCATION: I am starting the new year with a new desk working from home. Having worked from a lovely little office in Ings Mill, Ossett for just over a year it just makes sense to work from the office at home. I often work evenings and weekends so knowing all my supplies etc are all in one spot is just right for me and i'm enjoying it!

Working from home

So onwards and upwards! Let's do this!!

Seb & Charlie Design has a brand refresh!

Seb & Charlie Design thought it was time for a refresh and we are happy to introduce the new playful, yet stylish brand identity. We work with clients on numerous different briefs however our business ethos remains the same | WE ARE CREATIVE | WE ARE CONFIDENT | WE ARE KIND. Our new branding is true to us with it's bold colour palette and modern, clean typeface.

It's been a busy few months...Hi again!

Hello! Charlie here...of course (Seb can't type. He's 2 years old & has better things to do!)

Over the past few months life has been super busy so I apologise for the lack of blog posts. I've had a wedding to plan with the hubby, Ben (www.beedstudios.co.uk) & general life with a toddler and running my own freelance business...It's been non.stop.

I've been working for lots of new clients over the past few months (a good number sent my way by Leeds Printing Company - thanks Jamie & Mike!). A particularly exciting one was a brief from John Lewis to create an illustration / graphic design for a voucher collaborating John Lewis and The Great Yorkshire Show. Lovely jubbly duo!

Another lovely project was for the BEAUTIFUL interiors company Fern & Grey [http://fernandgrey.com] to create an editorial piece. It was a pleasure working with Fern & Grey and also Lauren, who is the owner of Lauren Holden Copywriting [http://www.laurenholden.co.uk.  I'd like to point out she kindly sent the work my way - Big Thanks again Lauren!

My work for WeSprayAnyCars.com was also an exciting one and I created a series of designs for their marketing material (presentation folder, business cards, compliment slips & brochure). I initially worked for the owner of the company; Dale Tate on a different design project for a company called Positive NRG. Both projects were great, it's always a pleasure to work with the client to create a mix of design work using infographics and graphic design. Anyone else LOVE infographics?!

The list goes on with illustrations / design / branding work for different clients involved in yoga, fitness, data sourcing, literature, architecture, pizza, medicine, flooring, milkshakes, nightlife, coffee, womenswear....oh and teeth :)

Here are a few tiny examples...

And...the wedding day! Ben & I finally got married, 10 years, two degrees, one son, one ginger ninja dog, called Wednesday and lots of different house moves later...

This is me, Seb and Ben happy as Larry on our wedding day [I don't know a Larry but I'm sure he's a barrel of laughs] #impracticaljokers

Anyways...life is now back to 100 miles an hour and we wouldn't have it any other way. Can you believe before Seb I used to sleep sometimes 12 hours at night and STILL feel tired and like I didn't have time to do anything...?! Oh how silly young Charlie was!
